Liberated Brno!?

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, Liberated Brno!? commemorates the eras of totalitarian regimes. The exhibition makes room for the eyewitnesses and direct participants of key events of the 20th century to speak for themselves, stories which have been collected by the Memory of Nations South Moravia which now presents them to you as part of the Meeting Brno Festival.

Every year, Meeting Brno brings dozens of artistic performances and discussion programmes, where topics reflecting the past blend with the current ones. This year’s festival takes place from May 29 to June 9, 2019 and, under the motto “Now That We Have What We Wanted,” invites you to reflect on the value of the freedom that we gained thirty years ago.

Memory of Nations
South Moravia

The stories of the witnesses from the city of Brno come from the Memory of Nations collection which contains thousands of testimonies about the events of the 20th century. The collection, a joint project of Post Bellum, The Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes and Czech Radio, is freely available at memoryofnations.eu.

Since 2018, Memory of Nations South Moravia has been recording the stories of local witnesses in Brno. These memories have been documented in audio and video recordings thanks to the support of hundreds of small donors.
